Back Story for Eugene Candreva
I started Taekwondo in 1973 in Yankton, South Dakota. The reason that I began studying martial arts was an incident that occur the night of my high school graduation. I was attacked by a person, which caused a severe concussion. At that point in my life it was all about being able to defend myself so that an incident like this would not happen ever again. Over time that focus was less, and my training became more about self-betterment. Soon I was at a point that teaching others was, passing on the great quality of learning the martial arts was more important. After college I moved back to Chicago and soon started teaching in the Oak Forest Park District in 1978. We grew to a point that opening a full-time school was in my future. That school is still in operation to this day. During this time, I work in the industrial field as a chemist all the way to Director of Engineering. In 2005, when the economy took a dive, I returned to education an attained a master’s degree in special education, become a licensed teacher. In 2005, we opened a second school in Bradley/Bourbonnais area. Currently, I am a teacher in Momence, Illinois and operate both schools.
